Northern Railway accepts resignations of Phogat, Punia
The Northern Railway has accepted the resignations of wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia.
The two star wrestlers had joined the Congress Party on Friday (September 6). Subsequently, Phogat was given ticket from the Julana constituency of Haryana, while Punia was appointed Working Chairman of the All India Kisan Congress.
In a notice on Monday, the Northern Railway said the “resignation given by Ms Vinesh, OSD/Sports/NRSA/NR on 06/09/2024 has been accepted by the competent authority with immediate effect”.
In a similar notice, the Northern Railway announced accepting with immediate effect the resignation of Bajrang Punia, who also held a post similar to Phogat’s.
On September 4, Phogat and Punia met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. This prompted the Railways authorities to slap a show-cause notice on Phogat.
