Nod to admission for diploma in elementary education
The Department of School Education has granted permission to all private self-financed colleges to resume admissions to the diploma in elementary education (DElEd) course for academic session 2024-26. The step has been taken keeping in view the high court’s judgment, which quashed the order of the course’s discontinuance.
Following the development, State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) has issued the admission schedule for the diploma. As per the schedule, online registration and payment of fee for the admissions will be done from October 14 to October 23.
On November 7, 2022, the state government had decided to discontinue the course in all block institutes of teachers’ education, government elementary teachers training institutes and private self-financed colleges in the state from the session 2023-25 in consonance with the NEP, 2020. After this, no admission to the course was made in 2023.
Opposing the government’s decision, the private colleges, under the aegis of Haryana Self Finance Private Colleges Association (HSFPCA), challenged it in the HC and later, approached the Supreme Court. They pleaded that the course was governed under the provisions of the NCTE Act, 1993, hence, the NCTE was the only competent body to frame an opinion as to whether the course to be discontinued.
SCERT Director Sunil Bajaj said, “The course is being run in over 350 self-financed colleges in the state, with a total intake of 20,000. The first round of allocation and admission will be conducted on October 25, second on October 28 and third on November 4,” he said.
