No headway in probe of Rs 350 crore AMRUT scam
There is no headway in the probe of the alleged Rs 350 crore scam in the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme pertaining to Rohtak district despite serious charges levelled by leaders of the Opposition as well as ruling parties.
Thanks to the administrative lapses and technical lacunae in the implementation of the AMRUT scheme, residents of Rohtak city have not been able to get its benefits despite a hefty amount having been spent on it.
The residents of different parts of Rohtak city have been forced to drink contaminated water for a long time.
Now, as the campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections hots up, the AMRUT ‘scam’ has become a big issue in the Rohtak constituency.
“The BJP government indulged in corrupt practices and derailed the progress of Rohtak city during its tenures. The people of Rohtak are seeking the BJP leadership’s explanation regarding the Rs 350 crore AMRUT scam, but they have no reply,” said sitting Rohtak MLA and Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Batra. Batra asserted that on coming to power, the Congress government would get to the bottom of the AMRUT scam and also get other misdeeds of the BJP regime probed and exposed. Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had also sought a judicial probe into the AMRUT scam. Former BJP MP from Rohtak Dr Arvind Sharma had also flagged the issue. Former Rohtak Mayor and BJP leader Manmohan Goel had said he had written to the state government regarding the issue. However, no concrete action has been taken in this regard so far.
