Night shelter remains unoccupied as homeless spend night at public places
Amid the chilly winter, many people are forced to sleep in the open, while the night shelter set up by the Municipal Corporation (MC) remains largely empty in Hisar town.
The shelter home, located in Rishi Nagar, has six rooms, each with a capacity of accommodating up to seven persons, yet only a few people utilise it. The needy are unable to locate the shelter home which is situated about 1 km from the bus stand and about 2 km from the railway station.

A visit to the night shelter showed that there were visitors in only one room, while other rooms were lying vacant. There were just two people in the shelter home. A visit across the town showed that several people sleep in the open on pavements along roadside and in market places, particularly around the railway station and on the Rajgarh road.
A man named Vinod, who works as a waiter who took shelter at the railway station, said he had no information about the night shelter.

The MC employees said they had affixed notices at the railway station and the bus stand about the shelter being maintained by the MC, but people were not inclined to visit the site which is located a bit away from the public places.
