The Haryana Vidhan Sabha will witness a new wave of leadership as 40 first-time MLAs are set to take their oath tomorrow. Among the 90 newly elected MLAs, political veterans such as former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will also be sworn in, while the newcomers begin their legislative journey.

Dynasts in the Assembly

- Arti Rao Singh, daughter of Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh

- Shruti Chaudhry, daughter of Rajya Sabha member Kiran Chaudhry

- Manmohan Bhadana, son of ex-minister Kartar Singh Bhadana

- Shakti Rani Sharma, wife of ex-Union Minister Venod Sharma and mother of Rajya Sabha member Kartikeya Sharma

- Sunil Sangwan, son of ex-minister Satpal Sangwan

- Balram Dangi, son of ex-minister Anand Singh Dangi

- Aditya Surjewala, son of Rajya Sabha member Randeep Surjewala

- Mandeep Chatha, son of ex-minister HS Chatha

- Pooja Chaudhary, wife of Ambala MP Varun Chaudhary

- Vikas Saharan, son of Hisar MP Jai Prakash

- Aditya Devilal, grandson of ex-Deputy PM Devi Lal

- Arjun Chautala, great-grandson of ex-Deputy PM Devi Lal

The celebrity factor

Celebrity wrestler and newly-elected Congress MLA Vinesh Phogat, who won from the Julana Assembly segment, will also be among the 40 new faces taking the oath.

No LoP for now

The Congress will go to the Assembly on Friday without Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader. This is despite the fact that the Congress observers — Pratap Singh Bajwa, Ashok Gehlot and Ajay Maken — had already consulted the party’s 37 MLAs recently.They have submitted their report to the party high command which will decide the CLP leader, who would eventually be the Leader of Opposition.

BJP legislature party meeting

The BJP Legislature Party meeting on Thursday decided to prepare a 100-day roadmap for development works. The names of Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be announced on Friday after the legislators’ meeting. Gharounda MLA Harvinder Kalyan and Ballabgarh MLA Mool Chand Sharma are frontrunners for the Speaker’s post. For the post of Deputy Speaker, the names of Jind MLA Krishan Middha and Safidon MLA Ram Kumar Gautam are doing the rounds.

The largest group of first-timers belongs to the BJP, with 23 new MLAs, followed by the Congress, which has 13. The INLD and Independents will also each have two fresh faces. Pro-tem Speaker Raghuvir Singh Kadian will administer the oath to the new members.

The new BJP faces include Anil Yadav, Arvind Sharma, Arti Singh Rao, Devender Attri, Dinesh Adlakha, Gaurav Gautam, Harinder Singh, Jagmohan Anand, Kanwar Singh, Kapur Valmiki, Krishan Kumar, Manmohan Bhadana, Mukesh Sharma, Nikhil Madan, Pawan Kharkhoda, Randhir Panihar, Satish Kumar Fagna, Satpal Jhamba, Shakti Rani Sharma, Shruti Chaudhry, Sunil Sangwan, Umed Singh, and Yoginder Singh Rana.

For the Congress, the newcomers include Aditya Surjewala, Balram Dangi, Chander Prakash, Devender Hans, Gokul Setia, Jabsir Singh, Mandeep Chatha, Manju Chaudhary, Mohammad Israil, Pooja Chaudhary, Rajbir Fartia, Vikas Saharan, and Vinesh Phogat.

INLD’s Aditya Devilal and Arjun Chautala, along with Independent MLAs Devender Kadyan and Rajesh Joon, will also take their oath tomorrow.

Meanwhile, seasoned politicians Raghuvir Singh Kadian (Congress) and Anil Vij (BJP) will take their oath for a record seventh time, while Krishan Lal Panwar and Bhupinder Singh Hooda will take their oath for the sixth time. Kadian, aged 80, is the oldest legislator, while Aditya Surjewala, at 25, is the youngest.

There will be a record 13 women legislators in this session, with Congress’s Geeta Bhukkal being the most experienced, having been elected five times. Savitri Jindal, the matriarch of the Jindal Group, is the lone Independent woman MLA and has been elected three times.
