Rohtak Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Narender Kumar has called upon sportspersons to play with a true sporting spirit and stay away from intoxicants.

“Players should follow the rules of the game and play with the spirit of sportsmanship. Apart from team spirit, sports also brings discipline and self-confidence in one’s life,” the ADC said while addressing the players after inaugurating the 68th National School Games Hockey (Boys and Girls) Under-17 Competition being organised by the Education Department at Rajiv Gandhi State Sports Complex in Rohtak.

Nearly 1,200 players from different states and Union Territories are participating in the event which commenced today and will continue till November 27.

The Education Department and the district administration have made arrangements for the players who have come from different parts of the country.

“We will try to ensure that the players return with good memories of the competition,” said the ADC.

Rohtak District Education Officer (DEO) Manjeet Malik welcomed the guests and gave detailed information about the event. She said 10 monitoring teams had been formed by the Education Department to facilitate the players.

DIET Principal Virender Malik stated that organising a national-level competition was a matter of pride for the district authorities and residents.

Cultural programmes showcasing the Haryanvi culture were presented. Girl students wearing traditional Haryanvi attire of kurta-daman and chundari displayed the state’s rich cultural heritage and achievements. An exhibition on Haryana’s heritage was also put up by the Education Department on the occasion.
