Union Minister (Independent Charge) and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh, speaking with the media here today, seemed visibly disappointed over not being elevated to the Cabinet rank for the third time in the Modi government.
Interacting with mediapersons in the Bar Association, Hisar, Singh said there was apparent resentment among his supporters regarding the same. “I am the only person who has been holding the same charge of the Minister of State (MoS) for the longest time in the political history of India,” he said. Singh currently holds the charge of Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation, and Planning and Culture.
Asked if he aspired for the CM’s post, Singh said, “Amit Shah has made it clear that the BJP will contest the Assembly elections under the leadership of Nayab Singh Saini.” Interestingly, he has been the MoSfor three consecutive terms in the Central Government.
Earlier, he has also served as the MoS under the UPA government from 2004 to 2009. In 2014, he had switched to the BJP and got inducted in the Modi government in 2014 and served as MoS till 2024. He was given the same ministerial status in the third term as well. Singh has also been a minister in the Haryana Government.
Singh said internal issues had gripped the state BJP. Raising the issue of corruption, Singh said he had asked the government to get the matter of the sanitation concessionaire, Echo Green, investigated by a Central agency. The firm was given the contract for waste management by the BJP-led government in Gurugram. He alleged that the firm was funded by China. “If there is any official or politician involved in it, action must be taken against them,” he said.
