Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) Commissioner Vaishali Sharma visited the under-construction road on Karna Canal, earlier known as Mughal Canal, to assess the quality of material used in the construction. She also reviewed the condition of nearby parks and listened to complaints of local shopkeepers regarding alleged encroachment by a school.

During her visit, the Commissioner found loose gravel and improper levelling of the drain along the road. She expressed dissatisfaction with the construction agency and directed municipal officials to thoroughly check the road’s quality, rectify defects immediately and impose penalties on the agency. “The agency is responsible for the quality of road. Any deficiencies must be addressed promptly. If further flaws are found, do not hesitate to blacklist the agency,” said the Commissioner.

As soon as she arrived, a large number of shopkeepers gathered to voice their concerns, including long-standing issues such as encroachment by a school. The shopkeepers alleged that the school had encroached on parking spaces, using them for parking buses, bikes and scooters. Sharma enquired about the issue from HSVP officials on the site and directed them to review the layout plan and take action against the encroachment as per regulations.

Shopkeepers also raised concerns about empty plots near the canal being used as dumping grounds for garbage. Sharma instructed the sanitation inspector to ensure immediate cleaning of these areas. The shopkeepers suggested converting vacant plots into parking spaces. The Commissioner assured them that a proposal would be made.

The traders urged her that the parks along the canal could also be converted into parking areas. However, Sharma said that greenery would not be compromised. “Parks are as essential as roads. We will ensure proper maintenance of all parks to preserve the area’s beauty and provide recreational spaces for local residents,” she said.
