Minorities' commission chief condemns Khalistani supporters

National Commission for Minorities Chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura has emphasised that no minority should feel insecure in the country. “No minority should feel insecure in the country, no one should face injustice. Everyone should be treated equally without any discrimination,” he said, while interacting with mediapersons at the residence of BJP leader advocate Vijaypal.

Earlier, he visited Shamgarh village, where he interacted with Sikh community members and held a meeting with officials of the district administration at the PWD Rest House.

Lalpura said the primary aim of the commission was to address issues related to insecurity, injustice, and inequality. He stressed the importance of strengthening unity and harmony across communities. “Continuous efforts are being made to strengthen unity and harmony among all communities in the country,” he said.

He exhorted NGOs and local administration to actively promote awareness of government schemes and strengthen interfaith relations to address any minor disputes effectively.

Lalpura condemned the recent incidents involving Khalistani supporters in Canada, saying, “There is no Khalistan here. Perhaps they believe Khalistan may form there (in Canada), but here, everyone is living peacefully. All Sikhs are patriots.”

He also condemned Khalistani supporter Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, calling him a criminal. “Those who speak such things are not Sikhs. It does not matter if their name is Pannu or Channu, they do not represent Sikh values. True Sikhs follow the teachings of the Gurus and respect all religions and their scriptures,” he said.

Explaining the role of the commission, he said its primary objective was to ensure the safety, welfare, and equal opportunities for minorities. He emphasised the importance of education, highlighting the Right to Education initiative, which provided free schooling, uniforms, books, and meals to students up to Class VIII.
