Kurukshetra, July 25

Cooperation Minister Banwari Lal today said measures were being taken by the government to strengthen the financial condition of cooperative sugar mills in the state.

He was at Shahabad to kick off the sale of ethanol from the Shahabad Cooperative Sugar Mills Limited. A 60-KLPD (kilo litre per day) ethanol plant was started at the sugar mill at a cost of Rs 99 crore last year. The minister flagged off ethanol-carrying trucks from the mill.

He said, “The state government is working to improve the economic condition of the sugar mills by launching various projects. It will help sugar mills in clearing farmers’ dues in time. The cooperative sugar mills at Palwal, Kaithal and Meham have started preparing jaggery and jaggery powder, while the Rohtak sugar mill is preparing refined sugar.”

He said the Shahabad Cooperative Sugar Mill was among the best in the country. It produced 7.39 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 73.15 lakh quintals of sugarcane in the last crushing season (2021-22) with 10.10 per cent sugar recovery. The mill also earned Rs 19.24 crore by generating 4.76 crore units of electricity.
