The district administration has enforced Section 163 in and around all examination centres for the upcoming semester exams of Postgraduate and Law courses at MD University.
The measure, which takes effect immediately, aims to ensure security and prevent cheating or interference from anti-social elements.
The Deputy Commissioner, Dr Harish Kumar Vashisht said the order, under the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023, mandates a ban on the operation of photocopy machines, fax machines and other copying or transmission devices within a 200-metre radius of examination centres. The Deputy Commissioner said the restrictions would be in place from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm for the morning session and 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm for the afternoon session or until the conclusion of the exams.
Additionally, he said the movement of unauthorised individuals and the possession of weapons, including firearms, swords and knives, would be prohibited at the examination venues. The only exception is the sheathed kirpan, a religious symbol for Sikhs.
The Superintendent of Police would oversee compliance and legal action would be taken against violators under Section 233 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, as well as other relevant laws.
