MC prepares to take action against property tax defaulters
The Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri is preparing to take major action against those persons, who are defaulters of property tax of more than Rs 5 lakh.
The MCYJ has issued final notices to 326 such defaulters and it will soon take action to seal the properties of these defaulters.
These include 130 defaulters with more than Rs 10 lakh and 196 defaulters with Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha said in the first phase, action would be taken to seal the properties of those who were property tax defaulters of more than Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.
“Even after the final notice, if these defaulters do not deposit the property tax, their properties will be sealed soon,” said Sinha.
He said then action would be taken against those, who were property tax defaulters of more than Rs 1 lakh.
“Notices are also being given to property tax defaulters of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh,” said Ayush Sinha.
As per available information, the property tax defaulters include owners of twin cities’ big malls, cineplexes, industries, educational institutions, hospitals, automobiles, rice mills and marriage palaces.
Sinha further said the workers of the MCYJ were giving notices to property owners by visiting their properties.
“If a person is not found on his property, then notices are being pasted on his wall or gate. Many property owners avoided getting the notices. Many property owners did not even give their mobile numbers,” said Sinha.
He said the property tax defaulters should take the notices seriously and pay the outstanding tax, otherwise action would be taken to seal their property.
As per available information, among the defaulters of property tax of more than Rs 5 lakh, the highest number of 85 is commercial units.
Among these, there are 54 commercial units having property tax dues between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh and 31 commercial units having property tax dues of more than Rs 10 lakh.
Apart from these, there are 19 industries on which property tax dues are between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. However, 15 industries have tax dues of more than Rs 10 lakh.
