MC issues notices to 2,295 defaulters of property tax in Y'nagar, Jagadhri

These defaulters owe Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh to the civic body

The Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ), has issued notices to 2,295 defaulters of property tax ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

If these defaulters fail to deposit the property tax soon, the MCYJ will seal their properties.

This category of property tax defaulters (between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh) owes Rs 45.85 crore to the MCYJ.

Some days ago, the Municipal Corporation had issued final notices to 326 defaulters of property tax that was more than Rs 5 lakh.

There are 130 defaulters of property tax of more than Rs 10 lakh, 196 defaulters of tax between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, 927 defaulters of tax between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 5 lakh and 1,368 defaulters of tax between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh.

“The tax defaulters of all categories starting from Rs 1 lakh to over Rs 10 lakh have property tax dues of about Rs 94.10 crore. Among them, defaulters of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh have property tax dues of about Rs 45.85 crore. Defaulters of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh have property tax dues of Rs 13.42 crore and defaulters of more than Rs 10 lakh have property tax dues of about Rs 34.83 crore,” said Ayush Sinha, Municipal Commissioner of the MCYJ.

He said that if these defaulters did not pay the property tax even after getting notices, their properties would be sealed.

He said that the property tax defaulters included big malls, cineplexes of twin cities, factories, educational institutions, hospitals, automobiles, rice mills, marriage palaces and other establishments.

“Notices have been issued to the defaulters of property tax of more than Rs 1 lakh under Sub-sections 1 and 2 of Section 113 and Section 130 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994. Final notices have also been issued to property tax defaulters of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh and more than Rs 10 lakh,” said Sinha.

He said that the employees of the MCYJ were giving notices to property owners by visiting their properties.

He added that if a person was not found on his property, then notices were being pasted on their wall or gate.

“In the first phase, action will be taken to seal the properties of property tax defaulters of more than Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. After this, action will be taken against property tax defaulters of more than Rs 1 lakh,” he said.
