Municipal Commissioner Surendra Beniwal led a special drive on Wednesday to remove encroachments across Sirsa city. The operation targeted shopkeepers, hotel owners and street vendors who had extended their spaces onto public areas. Goods kept outside shops were seized, leading to protests by some shopkeepers.

The drive focused on the Parshuram Chowk-Agrasen Chowk stretch, where encroachments are rampant. Commissioner Beniwal stated that encroachment would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He warned shopkeepers to remove items placed outside their shops voluntarily or face strict action. Following the warning, several shopkeepers began clearing the space in front of their establishments.

The commissioner mentioned that notices are being issued to offenders. During the operation, municipal staff also confiscated signboards and items left outside shops. Street vendors were warned to operate only in designated areas to avoid penalties.

The drive was carried out under the supervision of Commissioner Beniwal, along with Municipal Council EO Atar Singh and other officials. Beniwal said that such actions would continue to ensure that the city remained clean and organised.

Residents welcomed the move, hoping it would ease traffic and create a better shopping environment.
