Man gets 20-year jail for sexually abusing minor

The district court has sentenced a 28-year-old man to 20 years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 after being convicted in a case of sexual exploitation of a minor at a village here nearly two years ago.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Akash, a resident of a village in the district, had been arrested after a complaint was lodged against him. As per the complaint, he was charged of raping a minor girl. As the incident had taken place in 2022, the accused had been absconding till he was nabbed on September 30 this year. He was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment after being convicted by fast-track court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Hem Raj Mittal on Monday. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 on the convict. The conviction came on the basis of the evidence produced by the prosecution and the local police during the trial of the accused.
