A 65-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by some persons residing in his neighbourhood in the Housing Board Colony of Sector 18 here when he tried to stop them from bursting crackers around 11 pm last night. The deceased was identified as Bappan. Reports indicated that the victim, disturbed by the deafening sound of crackers being set off just outside his house, came out and asked those responsible to either move to another location or stop. According to Vinod Kumar, the son of the deceased, three neighbours took offence at his father’s request. They allegedly pulled him out onto the road and assaulted him injuring him grievously, leading to his death afterwards.

Vinod alleged that although the incident was reported to the police, the police failedwho arrived at the scene did not promptly transport his injured father to the hospital.
