Describing live-in relationships as a curse for society, State Commission for Women Chairperson Renu Bhatia has said there is a need to inculcate and practise traditional cultural values and customs among the young generation.

During the hearing of women-related cases at the district headquarters, she said it was time that parents understood the importance of the values of old-aged customs and values that are the sound pillars of a balanced society. Besides parents, the education system should ensure that values were passed to the next generation in a manner that they did not become a victim of norms that were harmful for the society, she said, adding that the trend of live-in relationship emerging in society was like a blot and sufferers were mainly women.

She said the system of marrying two daughters in the same family had also resulted in negative fallouts as the complaints of victimisation and exploitation had been seen as a common issue in such cases.
