Liquid waste management units to be set up at 122 villages in Bhiwani

Deputy Commissioner Mahavir Kaushik said liquid waste management units would be set up in 122 villages of Bhiwani district. He presided over a meeting of the District-Level Swachh Bharat Mission Management Committee at the DRDA hall in the Mini-Secretariat here.

The committee approved the proposal for liquid waste management in 122 gram panchayats of the district. He said that about Rs 29 crore would be spent on this project. The meeting also granted approval to establish block-level unit for plastic waste management in Tosham to collect and process plastic waste.

Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad Ajay Chopra said that so far, 101 villages in the district had been categorised as Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus. Both solid and liquid waste was being managed in ODF Plus villages. Chopra said that all villages of the district would soon be ODF Plus.

While issuing guidelines regarding sewage management, the DC instructed the officials to ensure that the collected sewage was dumped only in the designated sewage treatment plant (STP). He said that if any licence-holder was found dumping sewage outside the STP, strict action would be taken against him. He said that the administration had granted licence to 30 persons for this work.
