Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has sent a strong message to criminals and drug traffickers in Haryana, asking them to leave the state before October 8. Speaking at a rally in Sirsa in support of Congress candidate Gokul Setia on Sunday evening, Hooda claimed that the BJP government, which “provided protection to wrongdoers”, was on the verge of losing power. “This time, the people of Haryana are united in their call for a Congress government,” he asserted, energising the crowd.

Hooda criticised the BJP for its handling of the drug crisis in the state, stating that drug-related deaths in Haryana had now surpassed those in Punjab. “For the past 10 years, this government has failed to address the issue and has instead allowed drugs to spread in every village and neighbourhood,” he said. He promised that a Congress-led government would take decisive steps to dismantle the drug networks plaguing Haryana.

‘Will dismantle drug network’

“For the past 10 years, this government has failed to address drug menace and has allowed it to spread in every village and neighbourhood,” he said. He promised that the Congress-led government would take decisive steps to dismantle the drug networks plaguing Haryana.

He also targeted the BJP’s attempts to form alliances with smaller parties like the INLD, HLP, and the JJP, labelling them as desperate moves to divide the votes. “Voters are wise; they understand that supporting these smaller parties only benefits the BJP,” Hooda warned. He emphasised that the 36 communities in Haryana were coming together to support the Congress, indicating a strong desire for change.

During his speech, Hooda outlined a series of promises for a future Congress government. These include creating 2,00,000 jobs based on merit, restoring pensions for the elderly at Rs 6,000, providing 300 units of free electricity and offering gas cylinders at Rs 500. He also mentioned plans for health coverage up to Rs 25 lakh and legal guarantees for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers.

Gokul Setia, while addressing the crowd, echoed Hooda’s concerns about the impact of money-driven politics on development in Sirsa. He pointed out that the lack of industries had led to rising unemployment. “The people who once criticised the BJP are now aligning with them, showing their opportunistic nature,” he said, urging voters to reject such politicians.
