Ladwa college players shine in Karate championship
Five players from Indira Gandhi National College, Ladwa, have won medals in the Kurukshetra University Inter-Collegiate Karate (Men’s and Women’s) competition.
The tournament was held by the University Sports Department on Thursday. The Ladwa college players won one gold medal, three silver medals and one bronze in different weight categories.
As per the college’s spokesman, seven players from the college participated in the competition.
Jai Karan, a first year student of BA, won the gold medal in the 55-kg category. A BA (third year) student, Prachi, won a silver medal in the 45-kg category.
Another third year student of BA, Aniket Sharma, also won a silver medal in the 60 kg weight category. Bhavishya won a silver medal in the 84 kg plus weight category, while the BA first year student, Krish, won a bronze medal in 84-kg category.
The four players who bagged gold and silver medals have also been selected for the Kurukshetra University training camp. Upon final selection, they will represent the university in the All-India Inter-University Competition.
College Principal Dr Kushal Pal said that training in self-defence builds confidence, and essential skills that benefit individuals in various aspects of life. He expressed hope that these victories would inspire other students and athletes to actively participate in sports and uphold the college’s excellent reputation.
