Kurukshetra varsity to host 3 championships

The Kurukshetra University (KU) will host North Zone Basketball Championship (Men), North Zone Basketball Championship (Women) and All India Basketball (Women) Championship as per the annual sports calendar of the National University Games released by the Association of Indian Universities.
The KU has further applied to host three more games, including baseball, judo and shooting as the venue of these games are yet to be finalised for the 2024-25 session. The tournaments will be organised in December and January.
In All-India Inter-University Basketball Women Championship, a total of 16 best teams from all four zones (four teams from each zone) will participate in the competition.
In the North Zone championships, teams of over 60 universities consisting of over 700 female players along with 120 managers, coaches and technical officials will participate, and in the men’’s category, teams of over 70 universities consisting of about 800 players along with 150 managers, coaches and technical official will participate.
Dr Rajesh Sobti, Director of Sports at Kurukshetra University, said, “The Association of Indian Universities, Inter University Sports Board has released the annual calendar for the year 2024-25, in which the Kurukshetra University has been entrusted to organise the North Zone Basketball (Men), North Zone Basketball (Women) and All India Basketball (Women) Championships. We are grateful to KU Vice-Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva and the Association of All Indian University for giving us the opportunity to host three championships. But we have applied to host three more games including baseball, judo and shooting as the venues of some of the games are yet to be finalized and we are hopeful that the university will get to host more games in this session.”
“More than 1,500 players will participate in the two north zone championships and the university will provide the best platform to the players. The top eight teams will qualify for Khelo India University Games,” he added.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva said the basketball events to be organised during the championships would motivate students and teach them sportsmanship.
