Karnal, August 1
A three-day state-level ‘Khel Mahakumbh’ featuring competition in five games started in Karnal on Thursday.
The event, being organised by the Haryana Sports Department, was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Akhil Pilani.

Kayaking and canoeing events are being organised at a canal near Pundrak village while tennis matches are being held at Chamunda Academy in Sector 32. Handball and fencing competitions are taking place at Karnal Stadium. Cricket matches are being organised at different grounds across the district, said Joginder Kumar, event in-charge.
Addressing the players, Pilani said sports played an essential role in life as it helped one achieve new heights. He emphasised the importance of adhering to rules and maintaining transparency in competitions. He assured the players and coaches belonging to various districts of the district administration’s commitment to providing all necessary facilities at the event. “No player will face any kind of problem,” he asserted.
Rakesh Pandey, Deputy Director of the Sports Department, said teams from all districts were participating in the event, which would conclude on August 3.
Giving details about the results, an official said in the men’s tennis pre-quarters, teams of Hisar, Kurukshetra, Rohtak, Ambala, Gurugram, Bhiwani and Sonepat had won their respective matches, while in the women’s pre-quarters, Sonepat, Jhajjar, Faridabad, Karnal and Yamunanagar emerged victorious. In women’s handball, teams from Karnal, Sonepat, Gurugram and Ambala won their respective matches, while in the men’s category, Sonepat, Jhajjar and Faridabad emerged winners.
