Keep Gurugram e-way waterlogging-free, GMDA tells NHAI

As the Delhi-Gurugram expressway gets waterlogged every monsoon, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has told National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to get its act together. The GMDA held a meeting with NHAI and directed that some action points be taken on priority to curb waterlogging issues on the Delhi-Jaipur highway.

To avoid waterlogging, the creation of pondage areas on both sides of the highway was ordered. It was also directed that the area of the existing pondage in the green belt towards Udyog Vihar be increased and that additional pondage should be created by NHAI on the other side.

The installation of two additional pumps was ordered on the worst-hit point Narsinghpur. NHAI has been asked to deploy round-the-clock labour along with machinery near Narsinghpur for cleaning the debris from the drains so that flow of storm water is not interrupted.

Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) should ensure frequent lifting of garbage along the national highway to avoid clogging of drains during the entire monsoon. The cleaning of the culvert under NH-48 of Badshahpur drain has been ordered to allow free flow of storm water and to avoid waterlogging in the upstream of NH-48.

The highway authority has been asked to address waterlogging concerns in the depression area under the flyover at IFFCO Chowk by making additional road gully and laying underground pipeline with proper connectivity with master drain/surface drain for quick draining of accumulated water on the road for smooth flow of traffic.

All non-motorised transport underpasses which are at high risk of flooding during monsoon should be closed for use of public to avoid any mishap.
