Karnal’s 22 panchayats now TB-free, honoured by admn

Twenty two panchayats were here today honoured by Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh for getting the tag of TB-free panchayats.

The panchayats were recognised for their performance according to the National Quality Assurance Standards under the Ayushman Bharat Quality Health programme during the 2024 review of the TB-free campaign.

The DC urged all panchayats in the district to cooperate in making their respective villages TB-free.

He encouraged the honoured sarpanches to assist the neighbouring panchayats in this effort so that the entire district could become TB-free. He also gave directions to the Health Department officials and employees to provide proper medical facilities in the district and ensure the proper distribution of nutrition kits to the TB patients.

He also exhorted them to support drug de-addiction efforts and report any drug trafficking information to the authorities, assuring that the identity of the informer would be kept confidential.

Singh said Karnal district was at third position in the state for gender ratio improvement.

Addressing the panchayats, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohit Handa emphasised the important role of sarpanches at the panchayat level in achieving the goal of “Drug-free Haryana, Drug-free India”. He also sought their cooperation in stopping drug trafficking through their active involvement and asked them to report any drug trafficking activities to the administration, which will take appropriate action. He also encouraged sarpanches to motivate the youth to quit drugs and to counsel and provide proper treatment to those affected by addiction.

Civil Surgeon, Dr Krishna Kumar, said on March 24 last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the TB-free India campaign. Under this campaign, six indicators are used to assess TB-free panchayats. Out of the 45 village panchayats that applied under the campaign, 22 had been declared TB-free. He said nine panchayats from the Nilokheri block included Pujam, Unispur, Khwaja Ahmadpur, Barana Khalsa, Bakipur, Rajgarh, Mank Majra, Amargarh and Lathron. Eight panchayats from Indri are Kadarabad, Budhanpur Khalsa, Tusang, Budheri, Damanheri, and Manoharpur and five from Gharaunda are Upli, Bharatpur, Malikpur Gadiyan, Faizalpur Majra and Darulama Tarpur.

Meanwhile, officials and employees of the Health Department honoured on the occasion included Dr Paramjit Singh, Dr Vibhuti, Ramniwas, Ritu Rani, Saroj, Pinky, Rajni, Sumitra, Suman and Neelam.
