Karnal civic body chalks out plan to recover property tax from defaulters

In a bid to recover the property tax from defaulters, the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) has prepared an action plan. It has earmarked 100 top defaulters and notices will be issued to them. It was stated by the Commissioner of the KMC, Dr Vaishali Sharma, who directed the officials to expedite the process to recover property tax from defaulters.

Sharma, while chairing a meeting of officials of the property tax branch, emphasised issuing seven-day notices to identified defaulters and ensure completion of recovery procedures within 30 days. A monthly and weekly action plan will be implemented, with weekly review meetings to assess progress. Notices will also be issued to prominent private institutions with outstanding dues. The notices have already been issued to132 defaulters with dues exceeding Rs 50 lakh. A list of defaulters with dues between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 50 lakh has already been prepared.

She also reviewed the objections submitted on the NDC portal. Out of 85,114 objections, 64,610 were resolved. Additional steps were underway to address 1,670 cases that were reverted due to incomplete documents, 472 cases under resolution, and 18,362 rejections. Any valid objections resubmitted with correct documents will be addressed accordingly. Of 154 objections regarding new property IDs, 57 complaints had already been resolved, ensuring that citizen grievances were promptly managed.

Sharma stressed on compliance to the Right to Service (RTS) Act, ensuring timely resolution of all objections.

The Karnal MC currently ranks third in the state for self-certified property IDs, with 57,104 out of 168,363 properties verified, and Sharma directed the team members to accelerate efforts to reach the top position. All government department property IDs were to be verified within a week, and property IDs in the lal dora areas were now available on the NDC portal and the municipal website.
