Karnal civic body begins fogging drive amid surge in dengue cases
Amid surge in dengue cases, the Karnal Municipal Corporation has started fogging drive in various parts of the city. The drive aims at covering all wards and market areas as part of a comprehensive plan to combat mosquito-borne diseases. Two teams have been constituted under the direction of Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr Vaishali Sharma. One will handle fogging, while the other will be on emergency duty to visit areas with positive dengue cases.
Dr Vaishali Sharma said the MC began fogging in all city wards to prevent mosquito-borne diseases, especially in areas with high mosquito density where fogging was more effective. On Monday, fogging was conducted in Ward 1, covering localities such as Uchani, Baldi, Jhanjhari, Kailash, Mangalpur, Basant Vihar, and Randhir Enclave. Fogging will continue in Ward 2 on Tuesday.
The Commissioner said each team would complete fogging in one ward per day. Any area with dengue or chikungunya cases, or with specific complaints, will be handled by the emergency team. While the fogging machines are set to cover all main areas of the city, the residents can report any missed locations by calling toll-free number 18001802700.
“The fogging plan, covering both residential and commercial areas, will continue daily (excluding Sundays) until December 3, ensuring thorough coverage across all wards,” said the Commissioner.
Sharma urged the residents to take preventive measures by maintaining cleanliness and taking care that there was no stagnant water near their homes. She suggested adding black oil to standing water, as it created a surface barrier that prevented mosquitoes from laying eggs. For areas with high mosquito presence, she recommended use of mosquito nets. She also advised the residents to seek immediate medical care for symptoms of dengue or chikungunya fever, warning against relying on home remedies or unqualified practitioners, as these could worsen the patient’s condition.
