As many as 1,000 sanitisers were distributed to police personnel of all the police stations and staff members of the SP and IGP office here on Thursday. These were provided by city-based industrialist Dr Manoj Gupta, who has has a pharma manufacturing unit in Baddi in Himachal Pradesh. He said 2,000 more sanitisers would be made available for cops in the coming days. He lauded the role of the police force in adverse conditions and said he wanted them to be safe as they work tirelessly in the battle against Covid. TNS

Chandigarh Tie-up soon with google for Online lectures

With universities and colleges closed on account of the Covid scare, the Education Department has decided to provide alternative solutions for delivery of lectures and contents to students in partnership with Google India. Google Suite (G-Suite) for Education is set to be used for making an initiative of providing lectures and other contents to students through online platforms. An MoU is being signed with Google, the press note said. TNS

Apni mandis shut across state

The Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB) has shut down ‘Apni Sabzi Mandis’ across the state till March 31. In an order issued on Thursday, Chief Administrator J Ganesan said efforts were being made to reduce rush of people in these markets. ‘Apni Sabzi Mandis’ are generally organised in cities and towns where farmers from nearby areas come and sell vegetables and fruits. He clarified that grain markets and permanent vegetable markets would continue to remain open.

Y’nagar 60-yr-old isolated

A 60-year-old woman has been admitted to the isolation ward at the Yamunanagar Civil Hospital with fever and cough. District Civil Surgeon Dr Vijay Dahiya said she had gone to Vaishno Devi and developed a cough and fever upon her return. She was admitted to the isolation ward on Wednesday and her sample sent for testing to the BPS Government Medical College for Women, Khanpur, said Dr Dahiya. The report is expected on Friday. Meanwhile, City Magistrate Bharat Bhushan Kaushik said a tap had been installed outside the mini secretariat building and all visitors were being motivated to wash hands with soap before entering.

Ambala 2 more in isolation ward

Two more women were isolated on Thursday after they underwent tests in Ambala district, Civil Surgeon Dr Kuldeep Singh said. While a 28-year-old woman of Naraingarh, who had recently returned after a long train journey from Chennai and had reported symptoms of cold and cough, has been isolated at the local Civil Hospital, a 30-year-old woman from Ambala City, who had come back from Dubai five days ago without showing symptoms, has been home quarantined for 14 days, the Civil Surgeon added. He said so far, six samples had been taken in the district of which one had tested negative while the reports of the remaining five were awaited from PGI, Chandigarh.

K’shetra 2 suspects test negative

Two persons admitted to the isolation ward of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital have tested negative for Covid. A man who returned from Thailand on March 5, and a woman whose brother came from New Zealand were isolated in Kurukshetra after they reached the hospital complaining of cold and cough on March 17. CMO Dr Sukhbir Singh said, “They have both tested negative. They are fit and out of hospital. Currently, there are no more suspected cases in Kurukshetra.”

Karnal NRI, couple under lens

An NRI on Thursday has been admitted to the isolation ward of the Karnal Civil Hospital with complaints of bodyache. He belongs to Kaithal’s Kaul village and returned from Germany on March 10 to see his ailing father. Dr Ashwani Ahuja said his samples have been sent to BPS Khanpur for further investigation. He said patient was stable and has no other complaints. On Wednesday, a couple from Hansi road was isolated. Their reports are also awaited.

Kaithal 3 from UK isolated

Four persons, including three who returned from UK, were admitted to the isolation ward of the Civil Hospital here for observation and their blood tests have been sent to the Medical College, Sonepat. Civil Surgeon Dr Rakesh Sehl said a man and two women had recently returned from UK. Though they had no symptoms, as a precautionary measure, they reached the Civil Hospital due to their foreign travel history and now their test reports were awaited. They would remain in the isolation ward till then. A local resident admitted to the Civil Hospital five days ago was discharged on Wednesday. oc/TNS
