PEOPLE can be seen plucking jamuns from trees during monsoon. However, this has proven dangerous for many people as they fall from the trees and fracture their bones. Branches of jamun tree are not strong enough to bear the weight of climbers and break easily. Civil Hospitals are getting such cases regularly. Doctors have been advising people to buy the fruit from the market, rather than risking their lives by climbing trees.

THE town’s main park is in a state of utter neglect. The congress grass, scattered polythenes and other waste material on the banks of the Bidhikyar pond is very irritating for those visiting areas adjoining the Jawahar park for a stroll. The local municipal council, having jurisdiction over the park and the pond, has miserably failed to launch a cleanliness drive around the pond. The water level of the pond has gone down considerably due to less rainfall. Residents have urged the authorities concerned to fill the pond with canal water to control the depletion of the water table. The authorities should also ensure proper maintenance of the pond and adjoining areas at the earliest.
