Jagadhri-Paonta Sahib National Highway dotted with potholes, motorists harassed

The poor condition of several stretches of the Jagadhri-Paonta Sahib National Highway is giving a tough time to commuters. These stretches have developed potholes and craters, causing inconvenience to daily commuters.
Residents of villages located near the national highway have demanded the government to undertake repair work of this road immediately.

Rs 56L sanctioned for repairs
Rs 56 lakh has been sanctioned to undertake the patch and repair work of this road in Yamunanagar. Of the total amount, Rs 28 lakh has been released. Pradeep Atrey, Project Director, NHAI, Chandigarh
The factory of Ajay Garg, a businessman, is situated close to Manakpur village and uses this highway every day.
He said “The condition of the one-and-a-half-km stretch between Jagadhri and Manakpur village has is worsening with every passing day. It has become extremely difficult for the employees to reach to the factory. Commuting becomes more difficult during rain. Potholes get filled with water, making it difficult for commuters to identify danger spots.” Jagadhri-Paonta Sahib National Highway connects Haryana to Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand through Yamunanagar.
The mining zone of Yamunanagar is situated in Pratap Nagar and most of the vehicles loaded with mined and construction material use this highway.
“There are several stretches of this road between Jagadhri and Pratap Nagar, which are in extremely bad condition. The big potholes on the road are the major cause of accidents on the highway,” said Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Pratap Nagar town.
Another businessman, Satbir Singh, said the stretch of this national highway near Manakpur Industrial Area, Phase-II, was the worst affected. “Vehicles move very slow on this stretch as it has been completely worn-out. Potholes on this stretch are causing many accidents,” he said.
According to information, several other stretches of this highway are also dotted with potholes.
Pradeep Atrey, project director, National Highway Authority of India, Chandigarh, said Rs 56 lakh had been sanctioned to undertake the patch and repair work of this road in Yamunanagar. Of the total amount, Rs 28 lakh had been released and the remaining would be released soon, he added.
Sources said the stretch of the national highway near Manakpur Industrial Area, Phase-II, would be reconstructed as this stretch had been badly damaged.
