To save the industries during fire incidents, the industrialists’ organisations would purchase a hydraulic vehicle in collaboration with the district administration. It was decided at the meeting of industrialists with the Deputy Commissioner.

Panipat is globally known as the ‘Textile City’ and hundreds of industries are operational here not only in the industrial sectors but also scattered on the outskirts of the city and in the residential areas.

Most of these are polyester-based units and over 90 per cent industries are using petroleum products to manufacture their goods, which are highly inflammable. Highly inflammable chemicals are used in the industries.

If any factory catches fire under any circumstances, it becomes very tough to control it. In any untoward incident, foam tender plays an important role in controlling the fire in these textile units.

Recently, a major fire broke out in Vayda Overseas in Sector-25 part-2 and it took around 20 hours to control the fire. Similarly, several other major fire incidents such as Adarsh Home Furnishing in Sector 29 part-2, at a carpet manufacturing factory in Sector 25 part-2 and at a blanket manufacturing factory near Sewah have been reported in the city. The industrialists have to bear a loss in crores of rupees every year due to fire incidents.

The industrialists have been demanding advanced fire-fighting systems, water hydrants and skilled firemen to control the flames in case of any untoward incident.

Now, industrialists along with the district administration have decided to take initiative to save their industries from such fire incidents.

At a meeting of the industrialists under the chairmanship of DC Virender Kumar Dahiya on Tuesday, it was decided that the industrialists in collaboration with the district administration would purchase a hydraulic vehicle. Several times the fire occurred at the second or third floor of the unit but the firemen were unable to reach there to control the flames as they had no hydraulic platform with them.

DC Dahiya said that the vehicle would be handed over to the Fire Department to maintain it. The DC also directed the Fire Department officials to get the pipes of fire tenders repaired properly through their headquarters. The industrialists would also purchase foam and would be handed over to the Fire Department.

It was also decided at the meeting that fire tenders needed immediate water to douse the flames but there were very few water hydrants in the industrial city. In such conditions, they had to run to bring water. That’s why more fire hydrants would be made in the industrial sectors so that the fire tenders could get water immediately.

Member of the Bapoli Industrial Association said they would also purchase a fire tender and hand it over to the Fire Department. The maintenance and operation would be the responsibility of the Fire Department so that in any case of a fire incident in the Bapoli area the fire could be controlled immediately.

Vinod Dhamija, Chairman, Haryana Chamber of Commerce and Industries (HCCI), Panipat Chapter, Vibhu Paliwal, secretary, Panipat Exporters’ Association, Rajiv Aggarwal, secretary, HCCI, Ramesh Verma, president, Handloom Exports Manufacturers Association and other industrialists and administrative officials were also present at the meeting.
