In brief exchange of firing, two shooters injured; held
In a brief exchange of firing, a team of special task force (STF) has arrested two shooters, who were allegedly involved in firing outside the residence of a financier in Indri a couple of days ago. Both shooters received bullet injuries and have been rushed to the hospital, where their condition is said to be out of danger.
The accused have been identified as Sumit, a resident of Naina village in Kaithal district and Sahil, a resident of Kaithal city.
Acting on a tip-off, the STF team arrived near Western Yamuna Canal in Indri on Wednesday morning. The police said both shooters opened firing on them, prompting the team members to retaliate. In the brief exchange of firing, both received bullet injuries. Meanwhile, ASI Randeep and constable Nasib also received bullets, but luckily these got stuck in their bullet jackets, said inspector Deepender Rana, in-charge, STF, Karal.
Giving details, Rana said they had received inputs that two criminals were approaching the suspects on the bridge of Western Yamuna Canal. When they reached there, the police signaled them to stop, but instead, both started firing on the police. “We have taken them to the hospital, where they were given treatment,” said Rana.
Meanwhile, he confirmed that both accused were involved in firing outside the residence of a financier in Indri as part of extortion attempt of Rs 50 lakh. They also admitted that they were involved in a firing on a trader in Kaithal, he said.
