Ambala Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta on Tuesday directed the Education Department officials to improve Hindi and English vocabulary along with general knowledge of the government school students in the district.

He also said on November 23, a general knowledge test of students from Class IX to XI would be conducted.

The DC issued directions while inspecting Shaheed Major Gupreet Singh Memorial Government High School in Tepla village. He inspected the attendance register, toilets, classrooms, water tank, drinking water facility and interacted with the students.

Parth Gupta said, “The government schools must be updated on the lines of private schools so that the children are attracted towards government schools. The Education Department officials have been directed to focus on the quality education and motivate children to collect plastic waste as part of a cleanliness drive in the district. The students who will collect maximum plastic waste will be recognised and rewarded.”

The DC also motivated the students to increase participation in cultural activities and sports.

He also directed the officials to get the pending and development work related to soil and interlocking tiles done after village sarpanch Gagandeep Kaur raised the issue with the DC.

Parth Gupta also asked the department and gram panchayat to improve the student strength from 175 to over 210, complete formalities and send a proposal to the higher authorities to get the status of a senior secondary school.

The DC inspected the Anganwadi centre at Tepla village and offered juice to children for giving right answers.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited Amrit Sarovar in Tepla village, primary health centre (PHC) Saha, and an Anganwadi centre in Saha. He directed the officials to ensure all facilities to patients at the PHC and children at the Anganwadi centre, and said strict action would be initiated in case of any negligence.
