The Bahadurgarh CIA-II branch of the district police today seized around 42,000 quarters of illicit liquor and 432 bottles of beer in the Surya Nagar locality of Bahadurgarh town here. Two persons were also arrested.

“The illicit liquor was being smuggled to various parts of Delhi from Sonepat district in a Canter. The liquor was kept at a godown in Surya Nagar and the Canter was about to leave for Delhi when our team raided there acting on a tip-off. Two persons, including Canter driver Vijay Pal of Bhiwani and Manasbhi, alias Bholu, of Sonepat, were arrested,” said Inspector Vivek Malik, incharge, Bahadurgarh CIA-2.

The accused said the liquor was first brought to godown in Sonepat and then taken to Delhi. Thereafter, a local official of Excise and Taxation Department was called on the spot, who inspected the godown and also checked the legality, but the accused failed to show any valid permit/ licence, he added.

“Seven other vehicles used for transporting liquor were also found. Some boxes of beer were recovered from one of the vehicles. The accused also revealed that the liquor was being taken to Delhi at behest of a person belonging to Aasoda village,” he added.
