Illegal mining in Jatanwala village, panchayat seeks action against accused

Illegal mining was allegedly carried out on panchayat land in Jatanwala village, Yamunanagar district, prompting local authorities to take action.

The issue came to light when the village sarpanch and panches reported the illegal activity to the local administration. In response, the gram panchayat passed a resolution calling for action against the accused and submitted it to Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) Sachit Mittal of Chhachhrauli.

In a letter addressed to the District Mining Officer on November 5, BDPO Mittal noted that the Jatanwala gram panchayat had submitted the resolution on November 4, which named Rashid from the village as the individual allegedly responsible for illegal mining activities on panchayat land using an earth-moving machine and tractors. “The gram panchayat intervened and stopped him from further activity,” Mittal stated, urging the District Mining Officer to take necessary action.

The BDPO also requested an assessment of the financial loss caused by the illegal mining on panchayat land.

Mining Inspector Rohit Singh said, “I visited Jatanwala village on Wednesday to investigate the matter. I found evidence of illegal mining, and a report shall be prepared soon to initiate action against the suspect.”
