In a major development, the Delhi and Jhajjar Police today decided to open one lane each on both sides of the highway at the Tikri border keeping in view the inconvenience being faced by commuters following the blockade at the Delhi-Haryana borders.

The police started removing cemented barricades from both sides of the highway at the Tikri border in the evening. It is expected that the border would be opened by late night and four wheelers from both sides will be able to pass through it.

To ease problems of commuters

We are opening one lane each on both sides of the highways at the Tikri and Jharoda Kalan borders, which connect Delhi to Haryana through Jhajjar district. The decision has been taken after getting consent from our Delhi counterparts keeping in view the inconvenience being faced by commuters. —Dr Arpit Jain, SP, Jhajjar

The Tikri border has been closed for the past over 10 days in view of the Punjab farmers’ Delhi march. The authorities had erected concrete walls on the border to prevent the farmers from entering the national capital. Tight security arrangements have also been made at the outer area of Bahadurgarh town.

“We are opening one lane each on both sides of the highways at the Tikri and Jharoda Kalan borders, which connect Delhi to Haryana through Jhajjar district. The decision has been taken after getting consent from our Delhi counterparts keeping in view the inconvenience being faced by commuters,” said Dr Arpit Jain, SP, Jhajjar. He said Dhansa — another Delhi border connecting Jhajjar through Badli village — was also been being opened so that commuters could easily travel from there. “Initially, one lane on both sides is being opened for vehicular traffic. The situation is being assessed and further decision in this regard will be taken as per the requirement. We are in constant touch with the Delhi Police in this regard,” the SP added.

Jain also exhorted the people to follow the guidelines issued by the district police through its social media handles about the traffic routes in view of the ongoing farm protest.
