These industrial units were reportedly found operating without obtaining mandatory non-objection certificates (NOCs) from the government.
Virender Singh Punia, Regional Officer of the HSPCB, Yamunanagar, said Vibham Nayak and Vikram Singh, both Assistant Environmental Engineers of the HSPCB recently visited two metal units in Jagadhri, which were engaged in manufacturing of aluminium slabs using aluminium scrap as raw material.
He said those units were air polluting in nature and covered under the orange category as per the categorisation policy order of the HSPCB.
He further said during the visit of Assistant Environmental Engineers, those units were found operating illegally without obtaining prior consent to establish (CTE) and consent to operate (CTO) from the HSPCB in violation of Sections 25 and 26 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and Sections 21 and 22 of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
The Regional Officer said those units had not provided any adequate air pollution control device, releasing fugitive air emissions directly into the open environment without having provided any stack and sampling facility. He added that those units had been issued show-cause notice for prosecution, closure action and imposition of environmental compensation for the said violations.
“Both units were show caused as to why the action of prosecution and closure for violations of Water and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Acts not to be taken against their units and persons responsible along with imposition of environmental compensation as applicable,” said Punia.
