A day before the elections, former Chief Minister and Congress stalwart Bhupinder Singh Hooda today called party leaders and workers of various Assembly segments to his residence.

He received feedback from them about the prevailing situation in their respective Assembly constituency and asked them to motivate people to cast their vote on Saturday.

In reply to a question asked by ‘The Tribune’ on the occasion, Hooda claimed that the Congress was all set to come back to power with a huge majority as the people had made up their mind to vote against the BJP, as it had “failed” to live up to their expectations in the past decade.

“There is a direct contest between the BJP and the Congress in these elections. Since the BJP knows that it cannot win in a direct fight with Congress, it has hatched a conspiracy by fielding vote-cutters in many places. In Sirsa, Gopal Kanda is contesting elections in alliance with the INLD and is talking about supporting the BJP while the BJP too supported Kanda by withdrawing their candidate,” Hooda added.

He said, “With this Sirsa episode, the alliance of BJP-INLD and other parties has now become public. The people, too, will have to understand that all these are pawns of the BJP. Whoever votes for vote-cutters, it will go to BJP’s account. I appeal to the public not to let the power of the opposition get divided.”

Accusing the BJP of betraying the people by making false promises, the Congress stalwart said, “We do what we say. We have promised to accommodate the contractual/temporary employees working under Haryana Kaushal Rojgar Nigam (HKRN). After the formation of the government, they will be made permanent by forming a strong policy. Earlier too, we had given permanent jobs to thousands of temporary employees and in future also, we will take this decision in the interest of the employees,” he claimed.

Hooda also accused the BJP government of robbing the Dalits and backward classes of reservation by making recruitment through the HKRN without following the reservation policy.
