Hisar, February 15
A mahapanchayat held at Sisay village of the district today gave a call for farmers’ mobilisation on February 18 at Data Singh Wala border, expressing full support to the agitating farmers sitting at the Haryana-Punjab borders.
Farmers from about 40 villages gathered at Sisay village, where sarpanch Rajesh Sihag presided over the meeting. He said they had given a call to farmers to gather at Kheri Chopta in Narnaund subdivision on February 18 in tractors. “We have planned to march towards the Khanauri-Data Singh Wala border, and also towards Delhi borders,” he said.
The mahapanchayat formed a 50-member committee to coordinate with activists in these villages.
Ravi Azad, a farm leader, said the state government was treating the farmers like terrorists. “But the farmers are not going to be bogged down. It is a fight to the finish regarding our demands,” he said.
The mahapanchayat also announced support for tomorrow’s Bharat Bandh call. Vikas Sisar, another farm leader, said they would not tolerate the “barbaric attitude” of the government. “The measures taken by the government, like blocking highways and resorting to lathicharge and launching tear gas shells on farmers is highly condemnable,” he said.
Administrative and police officials, including Hansi SDM Mohit Mehrana, were present during the mahapanchayat proceedings.
Intelligence sources of the administration kept a close watch on the proceedings of the mahapanchayat.
Meanwhile, the Pagri Sambhal Jatta held a meeting in Fatehabad and condemned the lathicharge on farmers. Mandeep Nathwan, president of the organisation, said they would abide by the call of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha.
