‘Sewerage system has collapsed’

The sewerage system of the town has collapsed. Almost all localities have choked sewer lines and daily there are complaints from across the town. I fail to understand the rationale behind spending ~8 crore on the town park. Here, there is lack of basic amenities, the roads are full of potholes and there is no traffic system.  — Amit Grover, Former MC member

Addressing a press conference here yesterday, Grover who was the councillor from Ward 14 in the outgoing civic body said he would contest the election from Hisar Assembly constituency.

Grover had contested the MC election as an Independent and later joined the JJP. However, he joined the BJP some time ago after leaving the JJP.

He alleged that he had tried to raise the issue of poor civic infrastructure in the town during Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s visit when he interacted with the representatives of the urban local bodies at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology.

Grover said he wanted to raise the issues of the collapsed sewerage system in the town, corruption in the Municipal Corporation, poor traffic system, which often resulted in traffic jams. “We have been struggling with these problems for the past about five years. But instead of redressing those issues concerning the people, huge amount of public money was being wasted on unnecessary works. A sum of about Rs 8 crore was being spent on the town park. But there were no takers for the sewerage system in the town,” he said.

The former MC member said he would conduct ‘Vikas Dhundo Yatra’ in Hisar town to expose the claims of the BJP government and the local administration about the development works carried out in the town. He was accompanied by BJP’s Shaki Kendra Pramukh Satish Tagra, Lokesh Saneja, Suresh Lal, Brij Lal, Ram Lal, Pawan, Ramswroop, Prem Gauba, Naveen Tagra, Kamlesh etc.

He said he had joined the BJP at the invitation of the former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar who had assured him of the town’s development “But I regret my decision to join the BJP today. The commitments about the development of the town made during my joining the BJP remained unfulfilled,” he said.

“The sewerage system of the town has collapsed. Almost all localities have choked sewer lines and daily there are complaints from across the town. I fail to understand the rationale behind spending Rs 8 crore on the town park. Here, there is lack of basic amenities, the roads are full of potholes and there is no traffic system,” he said. He added that BJP MLA Kamal Gupta who was the Health Minister of Haryana and ex–Mayor Gautam Sardana had failed to fulfil their responsibilities during their terms.

Satish Tagra, a resident of Sant Nagar, who was Shakti Pramukh in the BJP Hisar Unit said the party workers who had worked for so long had no say. Giving an example, he said he failed to get his wife’s name corrected on the property ID. “I have been making rounds of the offices. My wife’s name has been mentioned as Kamlesh Kumar instead of Kamlesh Kumari. But despite my best efforts, I have not been able to get an ‘i’ added to the name,” he said.

He said he had contacted the minister and the MC officials but there was no solution to the problem. “If I cannot get such a small correction made, I can understand the plight of the common people,” he said.
