The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice on a petition seeking the transfer of investigation into the death of Shubhkaran Singh, allegedly caused by the police firing during a farmers' agitation. The petitioner, Charanjit Singh, has alleged that the Haryana Police opened fire indiscriminately on protesting farmers near Khanouri, located on the Punjab-Haryana border, on February 28. This incident led to the death of his son, Shubhkaran Singh.

Counsel for the petitioner submitted that despite the registration of FIR for murder under Sections 302 and 114 of the IPC, neither the Punjab Police nor Haryana Police have taken any further steps in investigating the case. As such, the petitioner filed the plea seeking the transfer of the investigation to a neutral agency, such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Taking up the matter, Justice Karamjit Singh issued notice to the respondents, including Haryana and Punjab Police authorities, and set the matter for further hearing on December 17.
