Haryana’s largest oxygen garden set up in Sonepat, 5,000 saplings planted

In a groundbreaking move toward environmental conservation, the Gram Panchayat of Juan village in Sonepat district has set a record by establishing the state’s largest oxygen garden, spanning 32 acres. A total of 5,000 medicinal, shady and fruit-bearing plants were planted to purify the air and enhance greenery in the village.

City Magistrate Renuka Nandal inaugurated the plantation drive by planting a sapling on Tuesday. The event saw enthusiastic participation from local youth, who worked together to plant all 5,000 saplings in the oxygen garden.

Nandal commended the gram panchayat for its historic initiative, calling it an inspiration for others. “This will significantly boost environmental protection efforts across the state,” she said.

Sushila Devi, the Sarpanch of Juan village, offered the panchayat’s land for this massive plantation drive, aiming to purify the village’s air and make it greener. The panchayat worked with tree activist Devendra Sura to implement the project. After obtaining necessary approvals, Sarpanch representative Vinod Kumar, along with Sura, his team, and local villagers, prepared the land by digging pits and securing the area with protective nets. All plants were provided free of cost by Janta Nursery.

Sura expressed his gratitude for the widespread support, mentioning that notable figures such as Sant Gopal Das, DEEO Jitendra Chhikkara, Olympian Abhishek Nain, and others participated in the drive. In a remarkable achievement, about 500 young volunteers managed to plant all 5,000 saplings in just one hour.

Students from various institutions, including Hindu Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Tikaram Kanya Mahavidyalaya, JVM Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Chhotu Ram Arya Mahavidyalaya, Government Polytechnic Institute, Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), and several local schools, actively took part in the campaign.
