Haryana Diary: VCs’ resignation creates stir
Rohtak: The resignation of Vice-Chancellors of Ch Devi Lal University, Sirsa, and Ch Ranbir Singh University, Jind, has not only created a stir in academic as well as political circles, but also kept analysts busy in ascertaining the exact cause behind the development. Some more resignations are expected in the coming days. Significantly, the development has led to lobbying among aspirants for these coveted posts.
Shivirs fail to give ‘samadhan’
Yamunanagar: The state government started ‘Samadhan Shivir’ sometimes ago to solve the problems of citizens. However, these shivirs have failed to live up to the expectations. People visit them with complaints and a hope for a resolution. Though officials listen to grievances and accept complaints, most of them remain unresolved. People are ultimately forced to make rounds of local civic body offices. Now, the Samadhan Shivir has started in mini-secretariat here, but people are not optimistic about it.
‘Waste’ politics to fore
Faridabad: The recent outburst by Prithla MLA Raghubir Singh Tewatia against the move to set up the first waste-to-charcoal plant at a village in his constituency seems to have become a political issue. Tewatia is the first elected representative to register a protest on the matter in an official meeting. Rajesh Nagar, the State Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and MLA from Tigaon, has also taken notice of the matter and asked the authorities concerned to review the project. As the matter is concerned with the Urban and Local Bodies Department, its minister Vipul Goel, who is also the MLA from Faridabad, is yet to clear his stance.
Desperate for ticket
Panipat: After the Assembly poll success, a number of leaders are willing to contest the elections for the post of mayor and councillors on a BJP ticket. Several aspirants started preparations for the elections soon after senior BJP leaders made statements that MC polls would be held soon. The MC has also started the process for the delimitation of wards. The Panipat MC poll has been pending since January. The BJP also seems to be in a mood to cash in on the momentum gained from the Assembly election win.
Pvt security at Gita Mahotsav
Kurukshetra: The decision to engage private agency during the International Gita Mahotsav at Brahma Sarovar has come under the cloud. Thanesar MLA Ashok Arora has questioned the decision taken by the Kurukshetra Development Board. Earlier, the police used to manage the entire security of the event. This is for the first time a private agency was also hired. The MLA said there were complaints of misbehaviour with poor vendors by private security personnel. He added the government could have roped in more police personnel from other districts instead of going for a private agency.
