Faridabad: The saying that ‘there are no permanent friends or foes in politics’ is getting reflected in the political arena here in view of the Assembly elections. Two senior leaders of the ruling party meeting each other and sharing the stage after a long gap may have left many perplexed. The allotment of ticket from an important segment to one of them despite the reported opposition by another seems to have prompted the latter to mend the fences. The meeting was crucial for both the leaders as they may need each other’s support to counter the internal dissidence due to denial of ticket to some other aspirants.

BJP, Cong workers resent selection

Kurukshetra: The allocation of tickets in Shahabad Assembly constituency by the BJP as well as the Congress has not gone well with their respective party workers. Picking sitting MLA Ramkaran Kala over old party workers and leaders has left other ticket aspirants fuming as Kala had recently joined the Congress after quitting the JJP. While former MLA Anil Dhantori has openly announced not to support the candidate, a couple of leaders are planning to contest as Independents. Meanwhile, the BJP has fielded Subhash Kalsana instead of former MLA Krishan Bedi, following which Bedi’s supporters threatened to resign to mark their resentment. While the candidates are making efforts to woo the voters, they find it difficult to pacify their own party workers.

Minister hit by caste factor

Hisar: Caste equations can make or break the prospects of any candidate even if he is a Cabinet minister. Energy Minister Ranjit Singh Chautala, who was the BJP candidate from Hisar Lok Sabha constituency but lost the LS election, has now been denied Assembly ticket by the party. Sources indicated that after the BJP dropped Karan Dev Kamboj belonging to the OBC Kamboj community from Radaur/Indri, the party had to accommodate one Kamboj candidate. It found one in Rania where Shishpal Kamboj has been given the ticket. So, it was a balancing act of the BJP which resulted in denial of ticket to Ranjit Singh Chautala who served as minister in the Cabinets of Manohar Lal Khattar as well as Nayab Singh Saini.

Ticket list brings cheer

Yamunanagar: The Congress has fielded its sitting MLA Bishan Lal Saini from Radaur Assembly constituency in the district. Some days ago, a rumour was spread on social media indicating that the party would not give him the ticket this time, causing disappointment among supporters of Saini. But when the Congress released the list of candidates on Friday night, the workers were overjoyed on seeing Saini’s name on the list. A party worker said they were waiting for the list of Congress candidates while watching the political developments as one watches a cricket match with a nail-biting finish.
