The Gurugram Traffic Police issued penalties amounting to Rs 2.47 crore against over 24,075 traffic violators in September for various offences. These offences include wrong-side driving, helmetless riding, illegal parking, jumping signals, underage driving, speeding, driving without a licence, driving without a high-security number plate, using a mobile phone while driving, overloading and driving without seat belts.

Have implemented Online challaning system

The police have implemented an online challaning system to curb traffic violations. More than 1,500 CCTV cameras have been installed on main roads, intersections and at red lights across Gurugram. — Virender Vij, DCP, Traffic

The traffic police attribute the high number of challans to their special ‘zero tolerance to violations’ drives. In recent months, the traffic police have launched several campaigns aimed at curbing violations.

DCP, Traffic, Virender Vij said the police have also implemented an online challaning system to further curb traffic violations. “Under this project, more than 1,500 CCTV cameras have been installed on main roads, intersections and at red lights across Gurugram. These cameras are monitored by the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) at the Police Headquarters,” he said.

As part of this process, postal challans, along with photos of the violations, are being sent to those who break traffic rules.

“To raise awareness of traffic regulations in Gurugram, we urge citizens to follow the rules in public places to protect themselves and their families from road accidents,” Vij said.

He said continuous action is being taken to reduce traffic jams and improve the flow of traffic in the city. “We have issued clear instructions to traffic personnel to be actively present on the roads and strictly enforce traffic regulations,” Vij added.
