Govt working on expediting mayoral elections: Khattar
Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said the mayoral elections in the state would be held at the earliest.

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who is also the MP from Karnal, announced the appointment of party leader Kavinder Rana as his representative for Karnal district. He said Rana would look after the office of MP in Karnal and would listen to the grievances of people. Karnal and Panipat districts are part of Karnal Lok Sabha.
“The government is actively working on plans to hold the elections without delay. There would be no delay,” said Khattar, while interacting with mediapersons on the sidelines of the Diwali Milan and Abhinandhan programme in the city. The event was organised to honour Khattar and newly elected MLAs for the BJP's victory from five Assembly seats in the district. Workers thanked the party for the appointment of Gharaunda MLA Harvinder Kalyan as Haryana Assembly Speaker and Indri MLA Ram Kumar Kashyap as the Chief Whip of the Haryana Assembly.
Khattar expressed his gratitude to BJP workers and leaders, while newly elected MLAs Harvinder Kalyan from Gharaunda, Ram Kumar Kashyap from Indri, Jagmohan Anand from Karnal, Yoginder Rana from Assandh, Bhagwan Das Kabirpanthi from Nilokheri, conveyed their thanks to Khattar for his leadership.

Interacting with the media, Khattar addressed the issue of stubble burning, acknowledging it as a serious environmental challenge. “Stubble burning is not a political issue. It is a societal problem. Pollution affects everyone, and we must all work together to address it,” he said.
When asked about the return of some leaders who had joined the Congress ahead of Assembly elections, Khattar said that decisions on such issues would be taken by the party’s organisational leadership.
Earlier, district president Brij Gupta honoured Khattar, while party leaders honoured the newly elected MLAs.
