In a significant advancement for the recycling industry and circular economy, a new patent titled ‘A novel and efficient method for deinking during recycling of waste paper’ has been granted for 20 years to Namita Singh, along with her PhD students Anita Devi and Rajneesh Jaryal, from the department of biotechnology at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST) in Hisar.

The inventors, Namita, Anita, and Rajneesh, believe their innovation will set a new benchmark in the recycling industry, contributing significantly to global efforts in environmental conservation and resource sustainability. This breakthrough is poised to have a far-reaching impact on both recycling industry and global efforts towards environmental

conservation.

A university spokesperson said the work was supported by the UGC and the Department of Science and Technology of the Centre and had been officially recognised by the Patent Office, Government of India. Namita and her students presented a copy of the patent certificate to VC Narsi Ram Bishnoi.

Namita said the innovative method was set to transform the recycling process by offering a solution that was highly efficient, economical and environmentally

sustainable.

The patented method addresses one of the most challenging aspects of paper recycling — removing ink from used paper without causing harm to the environment. Traditional deinking methods often rely on harsh chemicals that can be detrimental to ecosystems, but this new approach eliminates the need for such substances, making it a truly green technology.

This deinking method aligns perfectly with the principles of the circular economy. By enhancing the quality and efficiency of recycled paper, it promotes the reuse of materials.
