Addressing a poll meeting at Vikas Nagar locality here, four-time MLA and Congress candidate from Jhajjar Geeta Bhukkal said making Haryana drug and crime free was not a promise but a goal of the Congress.

She said the NCRB’s latest report stated that Haryana was among unsafe states in terms of women's safety. “Drug addiction among youth is a major cause of concern but the BJP government has failed to tackle it in the past decade. On coming to power, we will take all steps to eradicate drug abuse. Drug-free wing will be established in all schools and colleges. The number of de-addiction centres will be enhanced at the district level and awareness campaigns will be held with the help of social outfits,” said the former education minister.

She said the provision of strict punishment would also be made by attaching the property of drug smugglers. The Congress would also take preventive action to curb crime by reining in criminals, she said.

“There will be no place for crime during the Congress regime. It will be the responsibility of the Congress government to provide a safe environment for people. It will also attract top industrialists to set up units here, creating employment avenues for locals,” said Bhukkal.

Targeting the BJP government over the job issue, she said paper leak of many competitive exams, recovery of cash from the office of a recruitment commission and suspension of chairman of the Haryana Staff Selection Commission were enough to understand how government jobs were given during the BJP regime.
