Gangsters open fire at cloth shop in Fatehabad village, demand Rs 20 lakh

Three bike-borne gangsters opened fire outside a cloth merchant’s shop in Majra village of Fatehabad district on Saturday evening. They also threw a letter at the site, demanding ransom of Rs 20 lakh from the shop owner.

Panic gripped the area as one bullet struck the windowpane of the shop and there were bullet marks on the shop's shutter. No one was hurt in the incident, which was caught on the CCTV camera.

The threat letter was addressed to shop owner Prem, who identified the writer as Surender Fatehabad. The letter also mentioned that the shop owner would be responsible for the consequences in case the payment was not made.

According to police sources, 12 bore pistol was used in firing at the shop. Police have initiated investigation in the matter and are examining the CCTV footage of the incident.

Congress leader and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja expressed concern over the incident and alleged that the law and order had collapsed in the state. “The incident occurred in Majra village of Fatehabad district exposed the failure of the BJP government,” she said in a statement.
