Gang of phone thieves busted, seven nabbed

The Gurugram police have busted a gang of mobile phone thieves and arrested seven accused with at least 11 phones, a spokesman of the local police said here today.
Modus operandi
- The gang members allegedly stole mobile phones from houses in congested places like Islampur Wazirabad and Badshahpur.
- They would quietly enter houses of people, who went to sleep without locking their doors, and steal their phones.
- The accused would then sell these stolen mobile phones in the grey market.
Apolice team of the Maruti Kunj police post received secret information about suspects who steal mobile phones from houses. The police was told that they were standing in the Krishna Kunj area of Bhondsi town and planning to sell stolen mobile phones.
A police team from the post immediately reached the spot and arrested seven accused. Eleven stolen phones were also recovered from their possession at the time of their arrest on Tuesday.
Five of the arrested accused were identified as Ankit (alias Chhotu) of Tenwa village in Rohtas district (Bihar), Rajesh Ahirwar of Sherpa village in Tikamgarh district (Madhya Pradesh), Ankit of Ajarana Kalan village in Kurukshetra district, Vinod Ahirwar of Surajpur village in Tikamgarh district (MP) and Devraj of Kanwapur village in Tikamgarh district (MP). The identity of two accused could not be confirmed yet.
The police spokesman said during interrogation, it was revealed that they used to steal phones from houses in Wazirabad, Badshahpur, Islampur and other congested places. They would quietly enter houses of people who went to sleep leaving their doors open and steal their phones. They would then sell these in the grey market.
The Gurugram police have imposed Section 112 of the Organised Crime of the Indian Justice Code-2023 in addition to the criminal case registered against them under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
It has also come to light that Bihar resident Ankit, alias Chhotu, is a history sheeter. A case was registered against him under Section 61(1)(A) of the Excise Act at the Bhondsi police station in 2022. A criminal case under Sections 323, 506 and 509 of the IPC was also registered against him at the Bhondsi police station in 2021. The police are also investigating and verifying the past record of the other six accused.
