Fresh FIR after medical reports go missing in 2015 assault case
In a major twist to a 2015 assault case involving Surender Singh, the gunman of then Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala, the police have registered an FIR under Sections 408 and 34 of the IPC after crucial medico-legal records, including X-ray films, were found missing.
The case, originally filed on June 2, 2015, accused Vineet Beniwal, a former Assistant Director of Industrial Safety and Health Department under the Ministry of Labour and Employment. of assaulting Surender Singh at Chautala House in Sirsa. It is worth noting that on September 22, 2022, Vineet Beniwal died by suicide at his residence in Sirsa by shooting himself.
According to the FIR, the SIT, formed on the Punjab and Haryana High Court's directive, discovered discrepancies while reviewing records at Sirsa’s JCD Super Specialty Hospital & Trauma Centre.
The X-ray films needed for assessing Surender Singh’s injuries had disappeared. Although hospital records indicated these were handed over to persons named Sanjeev Kumar and Sanjeet Kumar in July 2015, They have denied receiving them.
The SIT's efforts to involve PGIMS Rohtak’s medical board also hit a roadblock due to the missing X-rays, preventing conclusive medical opinions. Investigations further revealed inadequate record-keeping practices at the hospital, where documents were poorly maintained, and no designated record keeper was in place.
Beniwal's father, advocate Amar Singh Beniwal, accused the police of biased action and demanded CCTV footage from Chautala House to uncover the truth.
